Prosecutors say Hayes and a group of roughly 10 people were walking on the 3300 block of North Halsted when they passed the victim and said something to him, reported the Chicago Tribune in 2011. Hayes pushed the victim, who threw the first punch.
That’s when the all-out brawl ensued, as seen in the video.

At the end of the YouTube clip, the victim is seen holding a shirt over what are assumed to be the stab wounds on his torso. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment and was later released, the Sun-Times writes.

While Hayes’ address was listed as the 900 block of Kenwood Street in Hammond, the Tribune says a court-appointed attorney told prosecutors Hayes has lived in Chicago for more than six years. Two knives were recovered from his home after the crime.
Hayes was held without bail until his sentencing, meaning he may get credit for his time already served.
