Chicago Police Seize 6,350 Illegal Firearms in 2013
Chicago Police Superintendent reported that the city has seen fewer murders in 2013 than in any other year since 1965.

The Chicago Police Department seized over 6,350 illegal firearms around the city so far in 2013, CPD Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy announced Monday.
Superintendent McCarthy also announced that, between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30, shootings are down 25 percent, murders are down 20 percent and overall crime is down 15 percent compared to 2012. The city has reportedly seen fewer murders in 2013 than any other year since 1965.
"While there has been less crime and fewer murders in Chicago this year than there has been in decades, there's far more work to be done and no one will rest until everyone enjoys the same sense of safety," Superintendent McCarthy said in a press release. "Yet with more than 6,350 illegal guns recovered this year, its clear that to reduce violence for the long-term our state and our country need better laws to keep illegal guns out of our communities and punish the criminals who carry them."
