1. Several protests were held last night in Chicago after Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all counts in his Kenosha murder trial. “What Kyle Rittenhouse did was reckless, dangerous, and showed an utter disregard for human life,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said after the verdict was announced. (Patch)
2. The Illinois Department of Public Health recommends all fully-vaccinated adults 18 and older get a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Ngozi Ezike also said the state "needs more people who are completely unvaccinated to get their first doses." (NBC5)
3. The Brown Line Bypass officially opened yesterday after two years of construction. The CTA estimates the move will “increase Red and Purple Line trains speeds by 60 percent in the area,” but some Lakeview residents say they are skeptical about the project’s impact on the neighborhood’s character. 4. The Christkindl Market at Gallagher Way will have special afternoon hours today, beginning at 4 p.m. An online marketplace is also available for residents who cannot attend the annual holiday event in person. (NBC5)
