Construction Moving Quickly at New Gap on Southport
Gap Inc. may be staying mum about Piperlime rumors, but construction crews are on the fast track to completing the project by late summer. Check out photos of the site here.
With a grand opening date slated for sometime in late summer, construction crews building the new Gap flagship store on Southport Avenue are moving quickly.
Demolition at the new store at 3461 N. Southport Ave. began Nov. 9 with crews and backhoes tearing down the former Ann Sather restaurant. Gap Inc. will soon open a 10,000-square-foot, two-story store next to the Brown Line CTA stop.
Walls are being raised, and the elevator shaft is even in place, among other details.

And while Gap’s 10-year lease is confirmed, it’s still unclear whether rumors that the retailer’s Piperlime brand will be the true tenant. While formerly only available online, Gap Inc. opened its first Piperlime store in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood in Sept. 2012.
Representatives with Gap didn’t immediately return Patch’s inquiries about the Piperlime rumors.
