1. The Chicago Department of Public Health denied a permit for Reserve Management Group to move its scrap metal facility from Lincoln Park to the South Side. A city assessment found the move would “contribute additional negative impacts” to the environment and health of residents. (NBC News)

2. Masking rules are now in the hands of Illinois school districts after a court ruling Friday determined the statewide school mandate is expired. Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he will appeal the decision and request a review by the Illinois Supreme Court. Chicago Public Schools will continue mask requirements. (Patch)

3. City transportation officials are issuing more fines than ever before for failure to shovel sidewalks. More than 60 citations were issued last year in Lincoln Park, the Gold Coast and Old Town — four times the number of tickets issued in 2020. (WBEZ)

4. A Galesburg teenager was arrested Thursday for his part in a string of Chicago retail thefts late last year. Police said Jerome Williams stole more than $20,000 worth of merchandise from stores in Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast. (FOX)
