Discount Mattress Store Fills Diversey Street Vacancy
The showroom will open Friday, adding to the already 12 Chicagoland locations.
The longtime vacant storefront next to West Diversey Parkway’s Bank of America will soon be home to a Chicago Discount Mattress, business representatives say.
Located at 548 W. Diversey Pkwy., the store is slated to have its soft opening already on Friday with a more grand opening over the weekend. Once the sign goes up, it’ll be one of 12 Chicago Discount Mattress stores in the Chicagoland area.
“Think of us as the Nordstrom Rack of the bedding business,” said Sean Bustard, operations director for the store. “We’re a value chain of quality mattresses.”

Bustard says the area’s high population density makes the storefront appealing to the company who sells mattresses at 50 to 75 percent off traditional prices. Crews were setting up the empty showroom Thursday morning with plans to open just 24 hours later.
And according to the retailer’s website, the store secures the deals by using older models or floor models.

“First, there's no real catch,” the website reads. “We sell mattresses that are discontinued models (may have different fabric than last years), floor models, 'as is' merchandise meaning a slight cosmetic blemish that does not affect the quality of the mattress or retail 'overstock' models (they bought too many and need to bring in new merchandise).”
The website adds there are no warranties on the beds. They are sold “as is” to keep prices low.
“Use this as an example,” Bustard continued. “If everyone was selling Chevy’s for $20,000, we’d be selling them for $10,000.”
