Easter Comes Early: ‘Hop Around the Shops’ on Southport Saturday

Shoppers, families and dog lovers alike are invited to "Hop Around the Shops," a free neighborhood event offering discounts hidden in eggs, samples and activities for both adults and kids.

Businesses down Southport Avenue are coming together for the fifth year to host the festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Between multiple appearances by the Easter Bunny, freebies and discounts, the event is ready to kick off the holiday a week early.

In addition, the Chicago Canine Rescue, Project Rescue Chicago and the South Suburban Humane Society are banding together so shoppers can meet more than 30 adoptable dogs while hopping around Southport.

In light of the partnership, many businesses like D’Agostino’s, Stella Blue Designs and Dog-a-holics are offering 10 percent of their sales to shelter dogs. That’s combined discounts and giveaways at almost every local business in the Southport Corridor.

And be sure to snag a photo with the Easter Bunny at either D’Agostino’s, Kooky Kids from 10:30 to noon, and at Snippets from noon to 2 p.m.
