Edzo’s Among Nation's Best Burger Joints, Survey Says
The Zagat Guide named 25 burger joints in 25 cities to its list of "America's Best Burgers." No. 1 in Chicago? Edzo's Burger Shop's original location.
A national food and drink reviewer decrees that Edzo’s Burger Shop makes the best burger in the area, according to the restaurant guide's list of “America’s Best Burgers.”
But the Zagat Survey honor has not been bestowed upon the restaurant's new Lincoln Park location. Rather, it goes to its original Evanston site. Zagat recently published a list naming the best burgers in each of 25 cities, including Boston (Mr. Bartley’s), Denver (Crave Real Burgers), Los Angeles (Golden State), New York City (Burger Joint), and of course, Chicago, where Edzo’s Burger Shop, 1571 Sherman Ave., serves “simply awesome” burgers with “to-die-for” fries and “transcendent” shakes, according to the guide.
Zagat Survey is based on the belief that the shared experiences of large numbers of users are inherently more accurate than the opinions of a few critics, its website indicates.

"Ratings capture the distinct qualities of an establishment on Zagat’s signature 30-point scale," it says. "Zagat editors summarize users’ feedback into concise reviews with high standards of accuracy."
The Lincoln Park branch opened in mid-December at 2218 North Lincoln Ave. Thrillist classifies Edzo’s as “burger craftsmanship,” with a “70s greasy spoon vibe.” The restaurant serves nine different French fry baskets, one with Buffalo and bleu cheese.

Fans on that restaurant's Facebook page recently responded to a post about the Zagat honor, questioning why the Lincoln Park location doesn't serve up the charbroiled burgers the Evanston restaurant is known for.
But both locations boast the highest quality, never-frozen American beef.
"We cut and grind the beef for our burgers every morning, right here in the restaurant," the company's website said. "We handle it gently and don’t overwork it. Nothing’s added to it until we shake some salt and pepper onto the meat as it cooks. That’s it."
Diners can also upgrade their burgers to locally raised and grass-fed beef.
