Jersey Mike’s Preps for Charitable Opening on North Broadway (PHOTOS)

The paper covering the windows is down, the tables are set, and customers are already itching to take a bite of a sandwich at Jersey Mikes in Lake View.

Slated to open on Wednesday at 3152 N. Broadway, the franchise chain’s latest location is making sure its grand opening is also good for Lake View. That’s why business Owner David Do is partnering with an area school to help raise money for the community.

“For our grand opening, we contacted Nettelhorst Elementary and gave them cards to hand out to the kids, friends and parents for free subs,” Do said. “Then, Wednesday through Sunday people can come in and get their free sub, and if they want, they can donate $1. We give all the donations to Nettelhorst.”

The location at the corner of North Broadway and Briar Place was once Chili Mac’s 5-Way Chili, a business that closed its doors after 21 years in the community. However, Do said people are excited to try out Chili Mac’s replacement.

“It’s amazing,” Do said. “Once we were a week from opening, they took all the tape and paper down from the windows. People are already walking in like we’re open. They can’t wait. Even today, we probably had about 20 people coming in to ask if we’re open yet.”

Do said this is the first of two Jersey Mike’s he plans to open in Lake View, with the second location potentially opening its doors in the next six to nine months. That location has yet to be determined.

This is the sub shop’s 34th location in the Chicagoland area, with three already open in the Loop.
