Neighbors to DIVVY: Bike Hub Is Traffic Hazard
The Belmont Harbor Neighbor Association is requesting that the bikes be removed from Pine Grove and Addison.
The Belmont Harbor Neighbor Association is requesting that a DIVVY station be removed from the intersection of Pine Grove and Addison, as the solar panel is blocking a stop sign.
"It's a traffic hazard, plain and simple," Garry Albrecht, member of the Board of Directors for the Belmont Harbor Association, said. "If anyone is not accustomed with that intersection, especially at night, they'll go right through it."
Neighbors near the intersection attended a Belmont Harbor Association meeting last month and requested the organization's support in getting the station moved. The organization then drafted and sent out a letter to the Chicago Department of Transportation, as well as to Alderman James Cappleman, requesting that the station be moved.
"These stations have been planted without any input from neighborhood groups," Albrecht told Patch.
The letter asks that the Divvy Bicycle Station be moved, and lists several reasons why it should be moved, the first of which are safety reasons. The letter also notes that there's noise and parking disruption, a location too near residential front doors and that the station was installed without notice.
"We believe that someone will listen to our concerns and work with us to find a solution," the letter reads. "We are seeking your help in relocating the DIVVY sharing station at 3565 N. Pine Grove to an appropriate location tat is safe for all concerned and where DIVVY will not interfere with the residents' quiet enjoyment of their home and take away precious parking spots from residents."
DIVVY has not yet replied to Patch's request for comment.
