PHOTOS: Waffles Officially Opens on North Broadway

After a few construction delays, the hotly anticipated Lake View restaurant Waffles is now open for business. Check out the photos of new restaurant here.

The popular South Loop breakfast joint Waffles opened its second location at 3617 N. Broadway in Lake View Saturday, featuring everything from red velvet waffles to a black bean burger.

However, the restaurant didn’t open without its struggles. Originally anticipated to open Nov. 15, the new East Lake View eatery pushed its opening date back to Dec. 12, Chicago Eater reported. But it wasn’t until Saturday that the restaurant officially opened its doors.

Details on the setbacks are unclear, as Waffles manager Alex Hernandez missed a scheduled interview Monday afternoon and didn’t immediately respond to Patch’s phone calls about the restaurant. During a conversation Thursday night, however, Hernandez said he was still waiting on key components needed to open the store.

With seating for 120 diners, the new Lake View location is larger than the Waffles restaurant at 1400 S. Michigan Ave., and it will include something the South Loop location is lacking: a 20-seat café serving Intelligentsia Coffee and 12 flavors of hot chocolate.

The restaurant currently offers a slightly altered menu than the one printed on their website. For example, the BBQ Chicken Sandwich is removed from the original menu, and items like pancakes and French toast have been added.

Time Out Chicago named the restaurant “Best New Breakfast” in its 2012 Eat Out Awards.
