Schwarber's Monster Homer: Ball Will Stay Atop Video Board
Cubs will keep the ball on the board through the postseason as a good-luck memento, and perhaps a warning to opposing pitchers.
But there is no truth to the rumor the ball slipped through the time-space continuum with Marty McFly. Rather, the soaring homer landed atop the new Wrigley Field video board. An eagle-eyed Tribune Publishing employee, Tom Comings, spotted the ball, and the Chicago Cubs verified the ball’s authenticity through a watermark on the cover.

A source told the Tribune the Cubs will keep the ball there beneath the “i” in Budweiser to honor the Game 4 victory, and a security guard will keep watch over anyone who goes up to work on the video board so no one steals it.
“We showed them the picture and they got on radio and were verifying it was up there,” Comings told the Tribune. “Then they called us back and gave us some stuff as thanks, a (Jon) Lester bobblehead, a thermos lunch bag and an Ernie Banks’ pin.”

To add to the lore, Schwarber called his shot.
“Yeah. We were out in centerfield and Joe [Maddon] was making a pitching change,” said Schwarber, as reported by DNAinfo Chicago. “I was just joking around and said: ‘I’m going to hit a home run off this guy.’ He’s like, ‘Do it.’ And there you go.”
