CHICAGO, IL — A smoking package with bad lithium batteries caused the evacuation Friday afternoon of the U.S. Post Office on the North Side, according to the Chicago Tribune. Firefighters were sent to the post office in the 4800 block of North Broadway in the Uptown neighborhood, but no one was hurt in the incident, the report added.
The call to the Chicago Fire Department came in just before 4 p.m. Friday, March 9, the report stated. A department spokesman said the batteries had gone bad, and the caller said it seemed like they were burning, the report added.
