UPDATE: Smashburger Reps. Say Location is Changing

A representative with the company says she spoke too soon, and the Chicago Public Notice in the window of Lincoln Park Plaza is not correct. The first store is slated for another North Side location.

Residents eager to bite into their first Smashburger on Diversey Parkway will have to wait, as the business’ representative said there will not be a location in the new Lincoln Park Plaza build-out.

The media relations coordinator called Patch Friday at 5 p.m. to say she spoke too soon, and the public notice by the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Development hanging in the window of the building is incorrect.

“(Smashburger) has 10 locations in the Chicago market, and there are still opportunities for them in that market, but they passed on that real estate location,” the representative said.

The update comes after initially confirming the location with Patch Thursday, saying “I’m currently checking in on (timeline and construction) details, but it may be too early to disclose.”

According to the spokesperson, the first Chicago location will open in the next few months in Lincoln Park at 2031 N. Clybourn Ave. meaning it’s still unclear what will fill the new 1,600-square-foot storefront on Diversey Parkway. Representatives with BJB declined to comment on the construction project at this time, as did the construction team Timberwolf General Contracting.
