1. Hundreds gathered in Wrigleyville Wednesday night to pray for Iñaki Bascaran, the 23-year-old man who has been missing since Halloween. Bascaran’s parents and friends held the vigil near his home in the 800 block of West Newport Avenue. (Block Club)

2. Local businesses impacted by L train construction are getting a boost from the CTA. More than 100 businesses have signed up to be part of the Red-Purple Modernization Open For Business program, which asks people to support local shops, theaters and restaurants “contending with the $2 billion overhaul of Red and Purple line infrastructure in the area.” (BCC)

3. Senator Dick Durbin is calling for an investigation into a Chicago shelter housing Afghan refugees after multiple reports of “children hurting themselves and ill-equipped staff.” The Heartland Alliance, which is looking after 80 Afghan children, has agreed to the investigation. (AP)

4. “Suitcase killer” Heather Mack was arrested this week at O’Hare after being deported from Indonesia, where she served seven years in prison for killing her mother at a Bali hotel. The Oak Park native faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice. (ABC7)

5. Local businesses are asking customers to shop early and be patient ahead of the holiday season, as supply chain issues and shipping delays cause backlogs across the U.S. Owners of Lincoln Avenue shops like Barks N’ Rec and Timeless Toys say they are preparing early for holiday shopping.
