Basement Fire Damages Lemont Home: Fire District

No one was injured after a basement fire on Weimer Avenue on Thursday.

LEMONT, IL — A basement fire damaged a home on Weimer Avenue on Thursday afternoon, according to the Lemont Fire Protection District.

Firefighters responded at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, with the first unit arriving within five minutes. A fire was reported in the basement of a one-story, single-family home, and firefighters confirmed with the resident that everyone was out of the home, according to the fire district.

The initial fire company began an "interior fire attack" and quickly extinguished a fire in the basement, the fire district said. Additional companies immediately began checking for fire extension on the first floor and conducted secondary searches of the residence.

The fire was contained to the point of origin and brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, the fire district said. Crews remained on the scene ventilating the home and investigating the cause.

Damage estimates are not available, and no injuries were reported at the time of this release.

The incident was held to a "still alarm," which brought approximately 24 firefighters to the scene, staffing four engines, two ladder trucks, one ambulance and other command officers, the fire district said. Three surrounding fire agencies assisted with this emergency, providing on-scene support.
