Business Spotlight: Hair Clippers Aims to Provide Affordable Cuts for Families

The salon opened last month at 12420 S. Archer Ave. in Lemont.

Longtime friends Tony Twohill and April France have wanted to open a business together for several years, but the timing has never been quite right.

This spring, however, the pair began looking at the vacant spaces in Lemont’s Archview Plaza, located at 12420 S. Archer Ave. The plaza was everything they wanted as they started their new business venture—a family hair salon.

Hair Clippers opened in Archview Plaza on July 16. The salon offers haircuts for men, women and children, as well as coloring and styling services, perms, conditioning treatments and waxing. Manicures and pedicures are also available.

Patch caught up with Twohill and France—who hail from Lemont and Homer Glen, respectively—to chat about Hair Clippers, and what sets them apart from other salons in the area.

PATCH: What made you two want to go into business together?

FRANCE: We’ve known each other for 15 years, and we’ve always thought it would be great to become business partners. I worked for a big corporation for a long time before I was laid off in 2009, so I really wanted to pursue my dream of opening my own business.

PATCH: Why a salon?

FRANCE: Everyone needs to get their hair cut, so we thought it was a great idea for a new business venture.

TWOHILL: The location is great, too. I think we’re really filling a need in this area with a family-oriented salon.

PATCH: What interested you in Archview Plaza?

FRANCE: Since we're both from the area, we really wanted to establish our business within this community. The location along Archer is just perfect because there's a lot of traffic and a lot of potential for future businesses. The clients we've had so far say they love the location.

PATCH: What services do you specialize in?

FRANCE: We're a full-service salon, so we do everything from haircuts to makeup. We also offer some waxing services, and we just ordered our manicure and pedicure stuff, so we'll be starting that in the coming weeks.

PATCH: What sets you apart from other salons in the area?

TWOHILL: We're very family friendly. We want this salon to be a place a whole family can use, not just women or men. Our prices are competitive, and our six stylists each have more than 20 years of experience.

FRANCE: Our biggest thing is customer satisfaction. If someone isn't satisfied with the service, we want to make sure we fix it and get it right. We also cater to our senior customers. We're offering discounts for senior citizens, because we think they should have access to good haircare.
