LEMONT, IL — The Lemont High School swimming team recently capped a successful season by sending qualifiers to the ISHA state finals in four individual events and one relay, which represents a record number of participants at the state meet.

Seniors Lucas Knutte qualified for the state meet in the 100 and 200 freestyle and Colin Treanor (100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke) represented Lemont High School at the state finals, which were held in late February in Westmont.

Lemont’s 200 medley relay of Knutte, Treanor, junior Aaron Jankauskas, and sophomore Owen TerMaat also competed in the state finals.

Treanor broke his own school record in his two events in which he finished 24th in the 100 butterfly (51.94 seconds) and 25th in the 100 breaststroke (58.79 seconds) Treanor previously established school records in the events in sectional competition.

Treanor’s state finals finish in the 100 butterfly represents the top finals performance by a Lemont swimmer, the school said. The senior was making his second state finals appearance after making his championships debut in 2020.

Knutte placed 46th in the 100 free (50.35) and 35th in the 200 free (1:49.48), while the 200-medley relay placed 31st (1:42.10).

Lemont finished as the runner-up at the IHSA Sandburg Sectional, which was the best finish ever in the sectional competition. Lemont swimming coach Meaghan Bower was selected as the Sectional Coach of the Year.

Event winners included the 200-medley relay (1:40.16), Knutte in both the 100 free (48.99) and 200 free (1:47.77), and Treanor in the 100 butterfly (52.00). Treanor also eclipsed the qualifying mark while finishing third in the 100 breaststroke (59.18) at the sectional competition.

All swimmers who equal or surpass an established minimum qualifying time in sectional competition advance to the state finals, as do event winners at each of the state’s 16 sectionals.

Bower’s team won the program’s second South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title this season; it previously had won in 2020.
