On behalf of Lemont Park District, the and , I
want to thank everyone who participated in our annual July 3rd Firework Extravaganza.
I respect the decisions of other local municipalities who chose to cancel their fireworks event, but through strong intergovernmental safety planning Lemont was able to rise to the occasion and light up the sky for more than 35 minutes.
For two weeks leading up to the event, our park district staff began a rigorous program of watering the ignition area and all subsequent fall zones in order to provide a safe environment for all of our guests and neighboring residents.
At 7 p.m. on July 3—after a final safety consultation with representatives of our local police, fire and emergency agencies—we were all in agreement—barring a change in wind speeds—to proceed with a 9:25 pm start.

Through the efforts of Mayor Brian Reaves, Steve Rosendahl, Louise Egofske, Dawn Banks, Larry Rizzo, Ben Wehmeier, Kevin Shaugnessy, Dan Tully, Greg Smyth, Carl Churolo, Jeff Hawthorne, Ralph Pakula, Tom Ballard and all of their respective staff members, we were able to safely plan and execute another memorable event.
An event of this scope would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: ATI Physical Therapy, ZLan Systems, MB Financial, Lemont Park Foundation, ChiroOne Chiropractors and Velocity Sports. I also want to thank Five Guys named Moe and GAC Entertainment for providing us with great music leading up to our aerial display.
At a time when we celebrate our countries independence, let us not forget the men and women from the Lemont area that are stationed throughout the world fighting for our freedom and that of others. Let us hope we bring them home safely so they can participate in next year’s event.
Sincerely,
Patrick Sexton
President, Lemont Park District
