Names in the News: Christian Vande Velde Finishes Second in 15th Stage of Tour de France

The 36-year-old Lemont native came close to his first ever stage win in the Tour de France on Monday.

Lemont native Christian Vande Velde grabbed headlines at the Tour de France on Monday after coming close to securing the first Tour de France stage win of his career.

Vande Velde, 36, finished second to Pierrick Fedrigo of France in Stage 15. A win would have given Vande Velde's team, Garmin-Sharp, its second stage victory in less than a week.

This year's Tour de France is the 10th for Vande Velde, who was in 60th place out of 153 riders after Stage 19. The Tour will conclude Sunday in Paris Champs-Élysées.
