Old Quarry Middle School Earns Statewide Recognition

The school was recently honored as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch​.

LEMONT, IL — Old Quarry Middle School recently earned statewide recognition from the Association of Illinois Middle-Grade Schools (AIMS). The organization named Old Quarry an Illinois Horizon School to Watch.

The honor is given to schools with outstanding academic performance, commendable social equity initiatives and excellent organizational structures, according to the AIMS website. Old Quarry was recognized after a representative from AIMS visited the school to evaluate its performance.

“Our motto at Old Quarry is ‘We Can. We Will. We Are!’ and this recognition really shows that
mission in action,” Principal Joe Sweeney said in a statement following the designation

Sweeney added, "Our team is excited and proud to be able to show up every day and do what is best for our students while creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment for our entire school community. It truly is a GREAT DAY TO BE A WARRIOR!"

In June, Old Quarry Middle School will join some 500 schools in Washington, D.C. for the annual National Schools to Watch Conference.
