Lemont Police Chief Considers Run for Will County Sheriff in 2014
Chief Kevin Shaughnessy, who has been with Lemont since 2004, is interested in running for the position in two years.

Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy has informally announced his interest in running for Will County sheriff in 2014.
Shaughnessy confirmed Thursday that he is thinking about running for the position after he leaves the at the end of next year.

According to the report, the Will County Police Chief's Association held its annual golf for Special Olympics on June 14, and one of the holes featured the sign, "Shaughnessy for Sheriff."
"A friend made that sign, and I agreed to it just to see what people would think of the idea," Shaughnessy said. "There's no official announcement right now. It's just something I'm considering."

Shaughnessy would run as a Democrat, and would have to move from his current home in Tinley Park, which is four blocks outside of Will County.
"It's a big decision, but I think Will County would be a good fit for me," he said.
Shaughnessy served 25 years with the Illinois State Police before becoming the chief of the in 2004.
