Cabs Crash, Hit Pedestrian and Liquor Store; Woman in Critical Condition

A young woman was reportedly in critical condition Friday morning after a cab sped through a red light, colliding with another cab, a woman and a liquor store.

Three people were in critical condition Friday morning after a taxi drove through a red light on the 2400 block of North Ashland Avenue, hitting another cab, a woman on the sidewalk and a liquor store, police say.

The accident occurred near the corner of Ashland and West Fullerton avenues shortly after 1 a.m. That's when, police say, a woman who was around 20 years old was walking on the sidewalk where a taxi driver veered off the road and hit her.

The driver also ran into a liquor store, believed to be J & R Liquor and Food in Lincoln Park.

A 32-year-old male driver, a 25-year-old male passenger in the cab and the pedestrian on the sidewalk were all taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in Lake View for treatment, police say.

They were reported to be in critical, but stable condition shortly before 8 a.m. on Friday.
