Chamber Luncheon Today Addresses 'State of Ward'

An annual luncheon kicking off at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at DePaul University will include appearances by three local aldermen and a discussion about the state of the ward.

Lincoln Park's community leaders will gather Wednesday morning at DePaul University to discuss not only what has been accomplished locally in the past, but what lies ahead for the future.

The Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce and the neighborhood’s aldermanic leadership are teaming up to host their Annual State of the Ward Luncheon, where they'll provide local business owners and others a glimpse into Lincoln Park’s landscape for 2013, they said.

The event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. in room 120 of the at DePaul University Student Center, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave. and those attending must purchase tickets in advance.

"The (annual luncheon) is an important event for setting the landscape for business, development and associated policies for the coming year,” Kim Schilf, president and CEO of the LPCC, said in a news release. “In 2013 we’re also excited to use the event to welcome another well-respected alderman to the neighborhood and present a donation to a valuable organization in the community."

The luncheon will feature the appointment of a new chamber board, as well as appearances by 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti, 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack and 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith. It will also include a check presentation to Lakeview Pantry—the beneficiary of the LPCC’s “Best Holiday Party Ever” event in December.

The pantry has been serving the city’s North Side for more than 42 years and works toward the elimination of hunger through the provision of meals and initiatives that lead their clients toward self-sufficiency. 

The chamber is a nonprofit organization that includes about 450 local businesses, institutions and professionals.

"The LPCC believes that business prosperity contributes to the vitality of the Lincoln Park community," its website says.
