Chicago Theatre Week Brings Discounts, Incentives to Show-Goers
For the first time ever, Chicago Theatre Week is being hosted in the city. About 100 shows are participating, several of which are in or around Bucktown and Wicker Park.

Tuesday kicked off Chicago Theatre Week—a five-day first ever event celebrating the rich tradition of theater-going in and around the city.Â
Led by The League of Chicago Theatres and Choose Chicago, the almost week-long initiative includes discounted tickets and added incentives, according to information sent last month by the organizations. More than 100 shows are expected to participate, it said, including some offered by The Theatre School at DePaul University, Steppenwolf Theatre Company and Victory Gardens Theater
"Each theatre will offer $15 or $30 tickets for the week of Feb. 12 ... " the news release said. "During the course of the week, there will be special events at participating theatres, including enrichment activities such as talk backs with artists and added value activities such as drink specials, as well as hotel and restaurant discounts."

Tickets and other offerings are be available via the event's centralized website.
“The goals of Theatre Week are to celebrate Chicago theatre by offering patrons special incentives, expanding the reach throughout all Chicago neighborhoods," said Deb Clapp, executive director of the League of Chicago Theatres. "We hope that the initiative inspires a renewed and heightened appreciation throughout Chicago and the Midwest for our rich theatre industry."

Eileen LaCario, vice president of Broadway In Chicago and chair of the League of Chicago Theatres added, “We are looking forward to a spectacular week, filled with amazing theatrical experiences including a kick-off party, special events and specially priced tickets that will make theatre accessible to a wider audience ... "
The promotional support for Theatre Week will benefit all participating theatres, she said.
Chicago theatre is the leader in the U.S. with more than 250 venues throughout the Chicago area, comprising a rich and varied community ranging from storefront, non-union theaters to the most renowned resident theatres in the country, according to its website.
The city's theatres serve five million audience members annually and have a combined budget of more than $250 million.
