Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday
Don't forget to switch your clocks back an hour at 2 a.m. Nov. 4.

It's time to fall back.
At 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, Daylight Saving Time officially ends.
So before you go to bed Saturday night, or when you wake up Sunday morning, turn your clock back one hour. It's like traveling back in time, right here on the North Side.

Every U.S. states besides Arizona and Hawaii participates in Daylight Saving as part of a longstanding tradition that keeps the sun high in the sky a bit longer during the warmer months. About 75 countries and territories have at least one location within them that observes Daylight Saving Time, according to TimeandDate.com.
Benjamin Franklin has been credited with the idea of Daylight Saving Time, reports the Huffington Post, but Britain and Germany began using the concept in World War I to conserve energy. It didn't become widely accepted in the States until after World War II, according to the story.

Public safety personnel generally remind residents around this time to also check the status of their smoke alarms. Many fire departments use the twice-yearly time changes to remind people to change batteries, especially with the holidays nearing.
In 2012, Daylight Saving Time began March 11 at 2 a.m. It begins again on March 10, 2013.
