Energy Efficiency Can be Affordable, Company Rep. Says

A representative from Energy Impact Illinois recently presented in front of the Wicker Park Committee to discuss ways to create a more energy-efficient home.

Keeping your home energy effecient doesn't have to drain your bank account.

That was Energy Impact Illinois Field Organizer Rob Geltner's main message while presenting at a Jan. 2 Wicker Park Committee meeting. He discussed with members various steps they could take to decrease their energy expenses while being more environmentally-friendly.

The organization offers professional home energy assessments for $99, or for free if homeowners are willing to host a "house party" to help spread the word about the program.

Geltner said homeowners are under no obligation to have any work done on their homes after an assessment, but that Energy Impact Illinois offers a 70 percent rebate—up to $1,750—for people who choose to undertake the project, which is said to increase a home's energy efficiency by at least 15 percent.

Geltner said his primary goal in speaking to the committee was to just spread the word about the program and get people thinking more about their use of energy in their homes.

"We're not looking for people to spend a lot of money," he said. "We're not looking for people to do any work at all. We just want people to learn more about what they can do as far as energy efficiency. if it leads to work for your homes or for whatever you're doing, that's great. We just want to educate people."
