Firefighters Pull Pup From Lake Michigan
Chicago firefighters successfully rescued a dog this week that they reportedly found submerged below the lake's ice.
Firefighters rescued their second dog in a two week period Monday afternoon and this time, it had fallen through the ice on Lake Michigan in Lincoln Park.
They were called around 2:45 p.m. that day to Simonds Drive, near its intersection with Foster Avenue, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Rescuers were able to pull the pup from the frigid water in a matter of seconds, the story says. It does not note additional information about the animal or if it was reunited with an owner.
Examiner details a similar save that occurred 14 days prior when another dog was rescued from on top of the lake's ice—it did not fall through—at Jackson Harbor.

That incident involved a black Belgian Shepherd mix who was about 1 year old, ABC Chicago says. The pooch was without a microchip or collar and it was unclear how or why he was on Lake Michigan in the first place.
"When the owner finally claimed the dog the day after it was rescued from the Lake after a two-hour attempt, he assured Chicago Animal Care and Control that the dog would not get loose again," the Examiner story says.
