Labor Day 2013: Forecast, Traffic Routes and Gas Prices

Whether you're heading out of town for the holiday or having a stay cation, here's everything you need to know about Labor Day weekend.

Time to savor the last days of summer; Labor Day weekend is once again upon us. But Monday might be the only day worth celebrating over the holiday. 

Forecasters are predicting a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

But grab your swim suits and sunglasses for Monday, because the weather will be perfect. Forecasts call for a high near 73 degrees and sunshine.

Friday, storms are predicted for after 2 p.m. with a high near 91 degrees. The heat index could reach 97. 

Saturday's rain—if it happens—will be early in the morning with sunny skies and a high of 82 degrees for the rest of the day.

Sunday warms back up again with a high of 87 and a chance of showers.

And remember: In addition to scouting our cheap options, you might be able to control how much gas your car burns. AAA offered these tips:

  • Properly inflate your tires
  • Avoid flooring the accelerator and slamming on the brakes
  • Drive the speed limit
  • Keep up-to-date on routine vehicle maintenance
