UPDATE: Wrong-Way Driver, Alcohol to Blame for Fatal LSD Crash (VIDEO)
Two were killed and two others injured Friday in a crash on Lake Shore Drive that caused a traffic jam that stretched for miles.
Police say a wrong-way driver under the influence alcohol is to blame for a horrific crash on Lake Shore Drive Friday morning that killed two men and injured two others, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The wreck involving three vehicles happened around 4 a.m. just north of Diversey Parkway, reports the Tribune. An SUV and Toyota were involved in the crash. The two men who died were driving the SUV.
The southbound lane was shut down for five hours following the crash, notes the Chicago Sun-Times.

According to police, a man in his 30s drove north in the southbound lane all the way from LaSalle and Lake Shore Drive, eventually smashing into a 2013 Jeep and killing a 25-and 27-year-old men from Little Village, writes the Tribune. The car was believed to be driving 60 mph at the time of the crash.
The man in his 30s who caused the crash is in stable condition at Lake view’s Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, writes the Sun-Times.

Lake Shore Drive’s lanes, initially blocked by police and fire crews, were re-opened after 9 a.m., CBS Chicago notes.
Cars were detoured all morning via Irving Park Road, Sheffield Avenue and Fullerton Avenue. ABC 7’s morning news break reported the traffic on those roads after the crash were slowed, at some points, to just 1 mph.Â
