Lincoln Park Earns First Conference Win with Victory Over Amundsen

The Lions traveled to Amundsen High School Thursday, where three players hit more than two 3-pointers each.

Lincoln Park High School earned their first conference win as Devin Smith led the Lions to a 60-42 road victory over Amundsen High School on Thursday.

Smith had an explosive 17 points with two 3-pointers.

“We were coming off a tough loss at home to Uplift (Community High School),” Lion coach Fil Torres said. “We didn’t really play well at home so for the guys to really rally and get a win on the road, we really needed it.”

Amundsen tried making a comeback after sinking a 3-pointer to start the third quarter and came within eight points.

But the Lincoln Park guards were on a shooting spree; Julian Nunnery and Malik Jones each had three 3-pointers to lengthen the gap.

“Lincoln Park really shot the ball very well, the 3-pointers, I really give credit to them,” Viking coach Ryan Ward said.

The Lions put the nail in the coffin when Joshua Wilkes broke free and found Tobi Ewuosho sprinting down the court. Ewuosho sunk a commanding dunk to make the score 26-40.

“I think the boys are really starting to rally together and not make any excuses for the guys we’re missing and coming together,” Torres said.

Lincoln Park will travel to Schurz High School Tuesday for their next game.
