Lincoln Park Wealth: Rich, Poor Blocks
We broke down the household income by block in Lincoln Park. Check out where the wealthiest, and the poorest, residents in town live.
It’s no surprise that household income in Lincoln Park is well above the state's average, but certain blocks in the community are far wealthier than others.
It’s all broken down by the website Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks, an online tool that combines Google Maps with the most recent Census data to show income and rent prices in every neighborhood in America.
According to the U.S. Census’ American Community Survey from 2007-2011, the richest people in the neighborhood live in the West DePaul area south of West Diversey Parkway and west of North Southport Avenue. The median household income there is about $131,000.Â

A close second is an area south of Armitage Avenue, west of Sedgwick Street, north of North Avenue and east of Larrabee Street where the median income is slightly more than $119,000.
That’s compared to Illinois’ middle-class household income ranging between $48,000 and $59,000.

Consequently, the poorest households in Lincoln Park are on the other side of the community. Reportedly earning about $54,000 annually, the people living in a northwest section of West Fullerton Parkway and North Clark Street earn the least money in town.Â

Although there’s a significant difference between the richest and poorest blocks in Lincoln Park, it’s nothing compared to blocks just a stone’s throw from the community’s borders. In an Old Town section bordered by West North Avenue and North Sedgwick, West Division and North Larabee streets, the median household income is just $13,185, the website reports.
Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks also looks at the median monthly rent costs. Residents renting apartments in the West DePaul and Sheffield Neighbors areas are paying the most—between about $1,608 and $1760 per month.
Renters living just west of North Clark Street, South of the Diversey Parkway border; along with those living immediately around DePaul University in the Sheffield Neighbors area are paying the least—around $845 per month.
