Accused Stabber Slings Poop in Holding Cell, Cops Say

A North Sider has been charged after reportedly ambushing a man in a bar bathroom over the weekend and stabbing him with a broken beer bottle. After he was taken into custody, the situation became even more messy, police say.

A North Sider was charged with a felony Sunday after while armed with a broken beer bottle, he reportedly ambushed a man in a bar bathroom.

Gregg Greaves, 23, faces one felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. A resident of the 4700 block of North Beacon Street in Sheridan Park, Greaves reportedly stabbed the man at Red Ivy Bar, 3525 N. Clark St. around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

While it’s not confirmed Greaves was in Wrigleyville specifically for the annual bar crawl—coined "TBOX" for "Twelve Bars of Xmas"—the crime occurred during the event, which started at 8 a.m. Saturday and continued through Sunday morning.

When police were called to the bar, which is at the corner of Clark and Eddy streets, the 25-year-old victim told them he walked into the men’s bathroom shortly after midnight, when Greaves jumped out of a stall and attacked him with the broken bottle.

The victim pushed Greaves away and was cut on the neck again, as well as on his chin and hands. He was seriously injured, the report said.

A 30-year-old bartender walked into the bathroom to find the bloody scene. After being transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Lake View, the victim was taken into surgery. He was listed Monday as being in stable condition.

Greaves was drunk at the time of his arrest, police said, and circumstances took a nasty turn when he was taken back to the 19th District Police Station on Addison Street.

According to the report, Greaves became verbally abusive to officers during processing. He started shouting obscenities and refused to wear his pants in the station.

Then Greaves defecated into his bare hands and started throwing his fecal matter on the floor in the processing room.

He is due back in court Dec. 17.
