New Pet Boutique Will Also Help Area Animal Rescues
Dog & Kitty in the City recently opened on Halsted Street. A grand opening is set for the first weekend in June.
Greta Glimm has always hoped to merge her passion for animals with her business background.
Now, 11 years after graduating from DePaul University, she finally has. Dog & Kitty in the City, 2622 N. Halsted St., is now open for business and serving up nutritious food, wholesome treats and stylish accessories for pets. But the local furry friends boutique will go above and beyond the standard pet products.
Glimm, who has a history of volunteering with local animal rescues, says she'll be teaming up with area animal shelters on at least a quarterly basis for adoption and fundraising events.

The first is set for June 8 and is in conjunction with the Chicago Bully Breed Rescue, she said.
"On a personal levee, I definitely think it's the right thing to do," she said Monday, noting that she was once on the board for a nonprofit animal rescue. "I know they don't make any money. They work seven days a week. They're relentless and tireless. My little part of being able to help … will make me feel good."

A portion of sales during fundraising events will go toward the selected shelter, Glimm says. Items currently available at Dog & Kitty include food from Primal, Fromm, and Weruva, as well as special order harnesses and beds from Bessie & Barnie and Tuffy toys.
But Glimm says she's getting new products in every day. She bases her selections largely on her own experience as a dog and cat owner.
She has a pitbull terrier, Tate—"Tater" when he's naughty and needs a two-syllable name, she says—and two cats, Shelby and Ella.
"There's nothing in here that I wouldn't give to my own pets," Glimm said. " … I've had a few cat people in here, already, and they've said they were very pleased with the selection. That's what I hope to keep hearing."
Although Dog & Kitty opened for business May 10, the official grand opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The event will include treat samples for dogs, 15 percent off for those who spend $50 or more on items excluding food, free reusable bags for the first 25 guests, an on-site photographer to capture candid photos of customers and their pets and the raffling off of two $50 gift cards.
The June 8 fundraising event will also be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
