Owner Swings Bat at Armed Robber; Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

Chicago police arrested one of two offenders who they say was involved in a local armed robbery this week that left a store owner wielding a baseball bat.

Cornell Mack, 53, faces one count each of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and discharge of a firearm. Police say that around 4:30 p.m. April 9, he and an accomplice entered Quizhpe's Gifts and Sports at 2242 N. Western Ave., on the Bucktown border, pulled a gun and demanded money.

LINCOLN PARK

A local nursing assistant has been charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a 94-year-old Chicago man diagnosed with dementia.

They say Carmelita Pasamba, 62, fraudulently gained access to the victim's money and used it to remodel her home, give to her family and purchase a new Mercedes Benz vehicle, according to Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez's office.

FBI: Cops Nab Northcenter Bank Robber

Officers have arrested a man who they say is responsible for robbing a Northcenter bank Sunday morning.

Erwin Acox, 39, of the 5100 block of North Kimball Avenue, was charged late Monday with one count of bank robbery, according to a statement from FBI Media coordinator Joan Hyde.

Boystown May get 100-Room ‘Straight-Friendly’ Hotel

Owners of THE OUT NYC hotel in New York City are planning to open a new hotel, including retail spaces and a restaurant, in the heart of Boystown, organizers with the Triangle Neighbors Association confirm.

Parkview Developers, the group behind the new hotel, say they’re interested in constructing the 6-story development on the 3300 block of North Halsted Street. The more than 100-room design would incorporate Minibar on the ground floor, and be built with access into Sidetrack, Redeye reports.
