PAWS Pup Overcomes Skin Infection, Needs 'Furever' Home

They say that diamonds are forever, and this sweet 2-year-old is sure hoping to find her forever home soon.

Diamond came to PAWS Chicago Adoption Center in Lincoln Park almost exactly one year ago, after she was turned into Animal Control as a stray. Suffering from a treatable skin infection, Diamond was itchy and almost completely bald.

No one knows how she survived the winter outside without any fur, but thankfully her shiny coat has grown back and she is warm and safe these days at the the center.

While Diamond was recovering, she spent some time in a foster home and did great. She is an excitable and active girl hoping to find adopters who like to run and play just as much as she does.

The 47-pound pup is good with a lot of others, and does best with energetic pups who also enjoy a rough and tumble style of play. She would do best as the only pet, or in a home with another dog, as long as she has an experienced owner who can monitor her as she tends to be possessive of toys around other canines.

Diamond would prefer a home without cats.

But, the pup absolutely loves people. She should be in a home with kids who are 10 years old and older so she can continue to develop her social skills. Diamond has attended doggy daycare at K9 University, and would likely enjoy enrolling in an obedience class with her new family.

Her leash manners have improved significantly in her time at PAWS, but she will still need positive reinforcement to help her succeed in a new home. This clever girl will also benefit from structured activities like agility or flyball to give her an outlet for both her mental and physical energy.
