PHOTOS: Area Kosher BBQ Opens Today

Among the North Side's newest—and possibly one of the most unique—restaurants, Milt’s Barbeque for the Perplexed, officially opens its doors for dinner Tuesday night.

Not only does the nearby Lake View eatery serve up barbecue dishes kosher-style, owners plan to donate 100 percent of profits to charity and local organizations. Manager Dan Weiss says based on the soft opening on Thursday, they’re anticipating a successful first donation.

“The first Community Gift of the Month, as we call it, will be given to Nettelhorst Elementary School,” Weiss said. “How much is donated will depend completely on sales, so we really encourage people to come in."

The idea of a kosher barbecue restaurant forgoing profits is so perplexing, it actually inspired the business’ name, Weiss said.

Located at 3411 N. Broadway at the intersection with Roscoe Street, Milt’s will start serving dinner at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. Weiss encourages people to call ahead to schedule a reservation, as space is limited.

Also, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page, the hot new barbecue joint won’t start allowing takeout orders until Feb. 7 or deliveries until March 1.
