Popular Lincoln Avenue Bar Shutters its Doors
The tavern, whose owners spoke up during the No. 11 bus cancellation, has closed its doors for good.

The popular Lincoln Avenue bar, Witt’s Tavern, has officially closed up shop.
The American bar and restaurant at 2913 N. Lincoln Ave. is less than 2 blocks north of Lincoln Park's Diversey Parkway border. The windows are now covered with brown paper and a sign is posted on the door.
Bar owners recently announced the closure on their website and on Facebook.

Thanks much!
The bar’s owner and manager were vocal about the cancellation of the No. 11 bus, which caused a heated debate back in September.
Former manager Cody Shelley, 27, referenced a Lincoln Avenue resurgence, telling Patch he recalled seeing more empty storefronts along the diagonal thoroughfare two years ago. Now, Witt’s is one of them.
"There's been a lot more life in this neighborhood," he said in September. "I still can't believe that an outlet that can bring more commerce to our area won't be in use. Cutting a bus route for a diagonal street? I really don't understand the logistics behind that."
Witt's served American fare, offered well-attended weekly trivia and had an expansive outdoor patio area in the back of its space.
