Two Seniors Lead Lincoln Park to Victory Over Lane Tech

Lions Julian Nunnery and Phil Posley led the team offensively in a close conference match-up against Lane Tech High School.

Lincoln Park’s Julian Nunnery and Phil Posley combined for more than half of the Lions’ points in a 51-43 victory over Lane Tech on Tuesday.

The two seniors, Nunnery as a guard and Posley as center, had 15 and 12 points respectively.

“Phil (Posley) played really well,” Lincoln Park coach Fil Torres said. “I’ve been yelling and screaming at him for weeks to get that weak side steal that he got in the second half.”

The Lions, 4-2 in conference and 7-4 overall, traveled to Lane Tech for a conference match-up. The team came out hard in a full-court press that caused four turnovers for the Indians in the first quarter.

“Our press is really, really good; that’s our bread and butter right there,” Torres said.

But Lane Tech adjusted in the second quarter, with Admir Suljic and Dana Torres hitting threes to take the lead. The Indians went ahead 23-21 at the half.

Despite the momentum going into the second half, Lane Tech didn’t score until 2 minutes left in the third quarter.

That’s when Suljic made a 3-pointer and got fouled in the process. Shortly after, he tipped an inbounds pass, chased the ball and bounced it out of bounds off a Lincoln Park guard. Suljic ended with 14 points on the night.

His efforts weren’t enough as Lincoln Park started pulling away. The Indians trailed by 6 with 90 seconds left. And with the foul bonus, Lane Tech went 10 for 16 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

For Lincoln Park, the win was huge before facing rival Foreman High School on Thursday.

“It’s a confidence boost going into Foreman to get a win like this over a quality team especially at their place,” Torres said.

Lane Tech is looking to bounce back when the team travels to Prosser on Thursday.
