Shots Fired At Chicago Cops During North Side Chase, Crash

Charges are pending against the driver, who was hurt in the incident Sunday night. A police officer also suffered minor injuries.

CHICAGO, IL — A man is accused of opening fire on Chicago police officers Sunday night during a 7-mile car chase that ended with the suspect slamming into a concrete barrier near DePaul University, according to the Chicago Tribune. Charges are pending against the man, who was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, the report stated. A police officer also sustained minor injuries and was treated at and released from a nearby hospital, the report added.

According to police, the incident began at around 11:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, when officers witnessed the man driving a silver Toyota sedan erratically near Harlem and Grand avenunes in the Montclare neighborhood, the report stated. The driver allegedly fired shots at officers after turning east onto Grand avenue, the report added. The suspect finally crashed into a concrete barrier in front of a pump at a BP gas staion near Ashland and Fullerton avenues in the Lincoln Park neighborhood as he tried to make a turn, the report stated. The impact spun the car around, crumpling the car's back end and smashing a passenger side door, the report added.
