Strut Clothing Boutique Reopens on Clark

Although employees say a recent remodel has created the interior feel of "a whole new store," Lincoln Park boutique, Strut, is offering the same statement pieces it always has. If you're looking to make an impression, it may be the store

After being closed for remodeling for nearly two months, a unique specialty clothing boutique is "strutting its stuff" once again.

Strut, 2549 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park, has a new look and just as before, is selling lots of new looks. The clothing and accessory boutique is committed to offering customers one-of-a-kind pieces they likely won't find anywhere else.

"We carry two in every size, for every item," store manager Lindsay Weiss said on Friday. "When it's gone, it's gone. We keep it that way so not everyone has what you're wearing."

Twisted aluminium bracelets, cashmere cloaks that transform into four different looks, handmade leather cuffs adorned with vintage broaches and dainty feather headbands are sprinkled throughout the redesigned shop. Meticulously organized, but not pretentious, it boasts "high fashion without the price."

Pieces generally come with price tags of anywhere from about $30 to $200, depending on the item, though leggings and accessories may be less expensive. Evening gowns and party dresses were among items on display Friday, slightly more than one week after the store had reopened to the public.

"I've been amazed at the demographic of shoppers coming in here," said Weiss, who before working at the Clark Street store frequented Strut's original—and only other—location in Geneva, IL. "It's just proved to me that we really have something for everyone."

The store's owner, Niala Conte, is a Trinidad native who moved to the U.S. after high school. She's always known fashion was her niche, Weiss said. She now scours for original pieces at trunk and fashion shows all over the country.

Typically among the boutique's highlights are pieces by Chicago designer Borris PowellG.I.A. Lux handbags—almost exclusively sold at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago—are available at the Geneva store. Weiss hopes the Clark Street shop may soon offer them, too.

"Ladies' Night Out" wine events will also be held at Strut in the coming months, Weiss said.

Strut is open daily until 7 p.m. The store's friendly staff members said they're eager to meet you.
