This Week's Pet: Collie-Shepherd Seeks Shelter

A 3-year-old pup who once lived on the streets has been introduced to indoor life at PAWS Chicago Adoption Center in Lincoln Park. Young Condan is now seeking a forever home. Can you help?

Condan is a deserving Collie-Shepherd mix who would love to be the newest addition to your family.

While he sure is handsome now, the 3-year-old pup was in terrible shape when he arrived at the PAWS Rescue and Recovery Center this past September. His fur was thin from poor nutrition, and his skin was irritated and covered in scars from fly bites.

Condan’s now beautiful coat was matted and dirty. It was clear he was used to living outdoors without proper food or shelter.

Despite the heart-breaking circumstances from which Condan was rescued, he has a resilient spirit and enjoys being around people. Because he had no one other than himself to rely on through some tough times, he can be independent until he gets to know you.

Living in a real home with a family of his own will be an adjustment for this pup, so he needs experienced adopters who can introduce him to things slowly. For example, walking on leash is new to him, and at 70 pounds he can be hard to control when he gets excited.

An obedience class and positive reinforcement every day will help Condan master important doggie life skills. He isn’t very interested in treats, so extra patience and creativity will be necessary.

Condan has a lot of energy and loves to zoom around the rooftop deck of PAWS Chicago Adoption Center in Lincoln Park. Throw him his favorite rope toy and he’ll chase it at lightning speed!

It seems that Condan was never exposed to dogs for the first three years of his life, as he doesn’t quite know how to interact with them. So, he would prefer to be the only pet in his forever home. He would also be best-suited for a home with kids who are 10 years old or older at this point in his socialization.

Will you give Condan the home he has been waiting so long for?
