Victory Gardens Theater Features Mojada, 'Modern Take on Greek Myth'

Happy Wednesday. Wondering what's going on in Lincoln Park today? Wonder no more, friends.

Chillier than usual July temperatures have sent many looking indoors for plans.

And what better time to unwind than a Wednesday? After all, you're more than halfway through your work week.

From the playwright of Victory Gardens Theater's critically-acclaimed Oedipus el Rey, comes Mojada a, "breathtaking re-imagination of Euripides' Medea transported to Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood."

The play is showing Wednesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., according to the theater's website, where tickets are priced between $30 and $60. The show runs through Aug. 11.

"With her husband Jason and companion Tita in tow, Medea crosses into the United States illegally to escape a past filled with betrayal," the play's description says. "Once here, she is caught in a struggle to adapt to the new country and to keep her family from breaking apart."

Alfaro's modern take on the Greek myth tackles American immigration, family, tradition, mysticism, and the explosive moment when they all collide, the description continues.
