Well-Trained Pup With 'Happy Feet' Needs Home

This week's Chicago PAWS pet of the week is a beautiful 4-year-old Australian Shepherd-Rottweiler mix. Her foster family says she's a joy to have around. Learn more about Meyna here. Can you give her a forever home?

Meyna is a beautiful, 4-year-old Australian Shepherd-Rottweiler mix in search of her forever home.

This sweet girl came to PAWS Chicago Adoption Center in Lincoln Park after a previous owner relinquished her to Animal Control in 2010. Because Meyna is so smart and active, she was anxious at center. Therefore, she spent some time brushing up on her obedience skills at K9 University before being placed in a foster home where she currently lives.

Read below for her foster family's firsthand account of life with Meyna:

“Meyna has been with Nanook (my Husky) and me since December.

Before coming to me, she had spent the last 8 months at K9 University daycare where she spent her days with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She adjusted quickly and made herself at home.

She is a cuddle bug and loves being around her people. She will hoard the covers and even try to steal your pillow! She loves to quietly hang by your side.

Meyna is reactive on leash. That’s something that we have worked on since she got here and she has improved. All is she needs is a strong handler with some treats in their pockets to redirect that fear in seconds.

She knows all of her basic commands and is very obedient when it comes to the house rules. She has been accident-free since she got here. She has free range of the place when I’m not home and is crate trained but only goes in there when she hears thunder or fireworks.

Meyna has small bursts of energy. She lives for her walks! She does well alone or in a pack walk. She does this cute “happy feet“ dance when she can't contain her joy. When she sees the leash pulled out, she gets so excited that as she sits still, but her feet are still dancing.

If there is toy with a squeaker, beware, she will play with that toy until the squeaker is gone. She loves to play fetch. She can play all day long!

Meyna will do well with with most other dogs. Puppies are too much for her and she gets annoyed quickly when they don’t understand her signals that she’s done playing.

This past July, Meyna had ACL surgery to repair a torn ligament in her leg, and she is right on track with her recovery. She has gotten clearance from her doctor to do short walks and stairs. She is still restricted from running around and jumping up for the next couple months.

She is looking for a family to share her BIG heart with. She is one of those dogs who appreciates life and never complains. All she wants to do is please you.

Meyna will make a wonderful, sweet, and fun-loving companion for her new forever home.  She deserves a  second chance to love and to be loved.”

Will you give her a chance?
