Wrigley to Add Luxury Seats Behind Home Plate

The 56 premium-priced seats will force the brick wall behind home place closer to the batter.

Chicago’s Wrigley Field is getting a small makeover soon to allow for 56 new luxury seats to be built behind home plate.

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks approved the proposal by the Chicago Cubs Baseball Club Thursday to disassemble the wall behind home plate, rebuilding it three feet closer to the field. The move will accommodate for the row of new seats.

And the cubs didn’t even wait for the proposal to be approved before measuring out the site for construction. Daily Herald writer Bruce Miles tweeted a photo on Wednesday morning showing Cubs employees on the field with a long tape measure, just behind home plate.

However, it wasn’t smooth sailing at the meeting, either. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, two commission members warned Cubs officials during Thursday’s meeting that they need to reconsider the fragmented way they’re renovating the stadium.

A series of construction projects have come before the commission in recent years, including a nearly 1,800-seat expansion and construction of a Budweiser Patio, among other things, the Sun-Times reports.
