The accident started around 4:30 p.m. when a man rear-ended another vehicle, causing a chain reaction. The man damaged another car backing up to leave the scene.

The driver traveled down Winnemac, side-swiping cars throughout the area of Winchester, Damen and Argyle. After hitting a light pole on Winona, he parked his car at Foster and Wolcott and fled on foot, Voss said.

Witnesses saw the driver and were able to give police a thorough description. Almost an hour later, the man reported that his own car had been stolen, Voss said.

Police from District 24 located the man, who had a suspended driver’s license. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Voss said, and was issued a ticket.
