Amundsen Hoops Start Break with Winning Conference Record

The Vikings are 3-2 in the conference with the hopes of improving in January.

Halfway into the season, the Amundsen girls basketball team have hit their stride.

The Vikings are 3-2 in the conference as they head into the winter break and assistant coach Cassandra Christensen said she’s pleased with the team's chemistry so far.

“Practices have been much more focused and I have a feeling that we will have a strong second half to the season,” she said in an email to Patch.

Amundsen will take a break over the winter holidays and face Schurz in January.

“Schurz has always been a quick team, so we need to make sure that we stay fit so that we can keep up,” Christensen said.

The squad has hit a few stumbles, especially with starter Joyce Jimenez’s injury.

With only six players against Rickover on Dec. 5, Christensen said Leslie Toledo and Micah Narsolis stepped up to another level. Their game along with the leadership of Amber Otero and Dyamond Bland, led to a tight game that ended with an overtime loss to the Sea Dragons.

The Vikings will next play at home Jan. 8 against Schurz at 5 p.m.
