Amundsen Poms Squad Returns After 10-Year Hiatus

The pom and cheer squads were set to perform Tuesday at the first boys basketball home game. The game was canceled, but the two teams said, "The show must go on."

A canceled basketball game didn’t ruin Amundsen High School’s spirit on Wednesday as the poms and cheerleaders took the floor for the first time this season.

The two squads were set to perform Tuesday for the boys basketball team’s first home game against Prosser Career Academy.

But when the stands emptied because Prosser didn’t show up, the girls danced and cheered anyway in front of friends and family.

“We didn’t feel discouraged (about the game),” pom co-captain Arriane Torres said. “Everybody just got that feeling and we went out there and did it.”

Fellow co-captain Sandra Ansong said their first performance went better than expected. The 17-girl team has been practicing twice a week since October.
