Area Date Rape Victim Treated in Ravenswood

A North Side woman said she was taken advantage of over the weekend after a Lake View man drugged her at a popular 5 a.m. bar, according to a police report. She was then taken to a Ravenswood hospital.

Chicago police are investigating the sex assault of a 23-year-old North Side woman who said a Lake View man slipped drugs into her drink at a local late-night hotspot before raping her.

The woman was later treated at Methodist Hospital of Chicago in Ravenswood, where staff tested her using a rape kit, police said. The incident started at popular after-hours venue in Lake View, Big City Tap, 1010 W. Belmont Ave., which serves food and drinks until 4 a.m. daily and 5 a.m. on Saturdays.

The victim told police she visited the bar around 2 a.m. on Dec. 10 when she ordered a beer with a friend. A 27-year-old Lake View man then sat next to her, making her feel uncomfortable, according to the report.

Police said the woman noted that she didn't want to leave. She reportedly soon "blacked out" and assumed it was from something the man slipped into her drink. The police report doesn’t confirm or deny the use of drugs during the alleged sexual assault.

According to the report, the woman woke up in the man’s apartment at 2 p.m. later that afternoon, and the man was naked on top of her. As soon as he saw that she was awake he got off of her, she told the cops.

The woman got dressed, asked the man where her cell phone was and returned home. A friend then drove her to the Ravenswood, police said. An employee at the health center examined the woman and later contacted police to report the crime.

Editor's Note: Charges against the man may be pending but they were not yet listed on Monday in the Dec. 10 report. For that reason, the suspect's identity has been withheld in this story.
