Boston Marathon Explosions; 361 Chicagoans Entered

Injuries have been reported after explosions rocked the area near the race's finish line Monday. It was not known around 3:30 p.m. if any of the 11 runners with Lincoln Square zip codes were among those injured.

Two explosions Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon have left three dead and 144 wounded, the New York Times is reporting.

Bloodied competitors and volunteers were seen leaving the scene and a medical tent near the finish was being used to treat the injured, the Times reports. Fox news cites the Boston Police Department in reporting that at least three people are dead—one of which is an 8-year-old boy—and injuries ranged from scrapes to severed limbs.

Boston Police also say no suspects have been taken into custody, according to CNN.

Though he did not use the words "terrorist attack," President Barack Obama said, "any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice," in a national address about 5 p.m. Monday.

Nearly 40,000 people compete in the Boston Marathon annually with runners coming from all over the world. Of the 974 Illinoisans who registered for this year's race, 361 hail from within Chicago's city limits, according to the race’s website. 

Eleven entrants live in the 60625 zip code area, which includes Lincoln Square. They range in age from 29 to 55 years old.

Chicago running company Fleet Feet Sports said its local participants are all safe. The store at 4762 N. Lincoln Ave. in Lincoln Square had several local runners in the race. 

"All of our staff, Boston bound runners, friends and family have been accounted for. Thanks to everyone for checking in. Please continue to hold Boston in your thoughts," their Facebook post reads
